EIP Student Data Collection 2012-2013

Student Data Reports

As schools implement CT's SRBI Framework, many have changed the name and processes of their early intervention team. No matter the name, the function remains – to make decisions using data about the most appropriate support for students who are struggling with academic, behavioral and/or social-emotional issues. They submit student data from their early intervention process (EIP, SRBI, SAT, EIT, etc.) so that they can evaluate the effectiveness of their team's process. This also enables SERC to evaluate the effectiveness of early intervention processes statewide.

SERC is pleased to offer this in-depth data analysis at no charge to all teams who have received EIP training from SERC. We analyze district-wide and school data to provide tables that summarize various aspects of a school’s early intervention process.

Examination of these data can assist with school improvement planning to ensure EIP quality and effectiveness and will help answer frequently asked questions, such as:

  1. What are the primary reasons for teachers’ requests for assistance?
  2. What is the percentage of students receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions?
  3. What is the percentage of cases closed because the goals have been achieved?
  4. What is the percentage of cases referred to PPT?
  5. Of those referred, how many are warranted? How many are eligible?
  6. Are there differences in these and other data points by race and gender?

Each district’s/school’s data can be compared with the aggregated statewide data for comparison.  Districts/schools can also look for trends across all the years they have submitted data.  Currently, statewide, district, and school student summaries for the 04-05, 05-06, 06-07, 07-0808-0909-10 and 10-11 school years are posted on the EIP Student Data Reports page.

Some questions have arisen regarding how EIP fits within Connecticut’s SRBI Framework and what kinds of student cases should be included in the data submission. A school’s early intervention process is an integral component of the SRBI system of decision-making, but it is not the only one.  Many schools now have instructional data teams that make decisions about small group Tier 2 interventions, in addition to their primary role of determining common Tier 1 instructional strategies.  Typically, this function of the instructional data teams is not seen as part of the formal EIP process, and formal EIP paperwork is not completed.  Therefore, data on only those interventions developed and monitored through the formal EIP process need to be submitted.
