As one of the first initiatives of SERC (founded in 1969), the SERC Library continues to be one of the foundations upon which a variety of other SERC programs and services are built. In 1969 the SERC Library was housed in a small classroom and an all-purpose media/materials room located at the Gengras Center for Exceptional Children at St. Joseph College. Thirty-five years later, the SERC Library, with its new and diversified resources, is growing once more and has moved to a larger space within the facility located in Middletown.
The SERC Library is open to the public and provides access to a wide variety of educational resources to all educators, parents, student support services personnel, administrators, prospective educators, and other interested individuals in Connecticut and its surrounding states. During the last year the Library has culled the dated or damaged educational resources from its collections, which has allowed us to make room for hundreds of new acquisitions. The Library now has one of New England's most comprehensive, diversified, and up-to-date collections of educational resources, including: 3,571 professional books; 2,096 instructional materials; 711 inservice education programs; 316 tests; 80 vertical files; 441 family books; 319 young people's books; 131 references; 153 CD-ROMs; 45 Web resources; 150 SFCPs (School/Family/Community/Partnerships). In addition to these circulating collections, the Library has an extensive collection of journals (225 current journals and approximately 4,056 bound volumes) and newsletters and four online databases for use by educators, administrators, parents, student support services personnel, and college faculty and students statewide.
Come visit us and familiarize yourself with all the available resources for your use at the Library. Our staff is more than willing to assist first time visitors and old "friends" too.
