More ISSS Literacy Connections

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) has developed several important documents for SLPs as they pursue the challenge of linking their work to literacy goals. These include practice guidelines and a technical report describing Roles and Responsibilities of Speech-Language Pathologists With Respect to Reading and Writing in Children and Adolescents (2001)and the recently published Knowledge and Skills Needed by Speech-Language Pathologists with Respect to Reading and Writing in Children and Adolescents (2002).

ISSS partners with other SERC initiatives to provide many literacy-related professional development opportunities for teachers, SLPs, and other support services professionals. During the 2002-03 school year these will include Engaging Young Children in Storytelling, and Linking Language and Literacy ThroughStory Narratives. Exciting job-embedded professional development opportunities linked to these training sessions are also available.
