ISSS News and Noteworthy:
More ISSS Literacy Connections
ISSS
partners with other SERC initiatives to provide many literacy-related
professional development opportunities for teachers, SLPs, and other
support services professionals. During the 2002-03 school year these
included two trainings offered by Maryellen Moreau, Engaging
Young Children in Storytelling, and Linking Language and
Literacy Through Story Narratives. Participants at both of these
workshops engaged in hands-on learning with materials such as “Braidy”
featured in the photos. Braidy and the Story Grammar Marker, including
instructional manuals, are available in SERC’s library.
Both of these professional development opportunities were brought
back during 2003-04 by popular demand. Engaging Young Children
in Storytelling was offered through SERC’s Early Childhood
Education initiative, while Linking Language and Literacy Through
Story Narratives was made available within SERC’s Literacy
initiative.
