Families as Partners Intiative

Especially for Families

families logoToday, students are being increasingly challenged by national, state, and local requirements to perform at higher levels. School personnel are being increasingly challenged to assume greater accountability for teaching and learning. Families, too, are facing these same policies and laws with the responsibility for critical decisions about the appropriateness and quality of programs and the effectiveness of schools. Such responsibility calls for highly knowledgeable educators and families who can collaborate effectively in supporting children's learning, growth, and development.

Fortunately, Connecticut families and school personnel have access to the exceptional training, technical assistance, and learning opportunities that SERC has been providing for over three decades. SERC's Professional Development offerings are open to family members interested in participating with school personnel in new learning that will help them to advocate for their children and be active decision-makers in the educational process.

Each activity that SERC sponsors continues a long-standing tradition of considering the needs of adult family members even though the presenter may have prepared the content of the workshop with educational professionals in mind. Access to information on SERC's wide range of activities is available here, on the SERC website. There you will find the workshop selections featured in all five of the booklets.

Further information about family-school partnerships is available by contacting Barbara Slone, Consultant, Families as Partners Initiative, at SERC, (860) 632-1485, ext. 340.
