Announcement: Temporary Closing of SERC Library

The SERC Library will be temporarily closing its doors to the public beginning on May 26. Read on for more details.

April 6, 2017

Dear Valued Patrons,

Since SERC’s inception in 1969, the SERC Library has served Connecticut as a unique combination of public library, specialized library and academic library. The Library has helped tens of thousands of general and special educators, educators-in-training and families of children with special needs through its relevant, timely and high-quality resources in the field of education and related services.

This spring and summer, the SERC Library will face some immediate and pressing challenges, including the potential of physically moving from our current site to an alternative nearby location. As a result, SERC will be temporarily closing the Library. While change is always difficult, this provides an opportunity for us to expand our repertoire of Library programs and services to meet the demands of 21st-century education. We do not anticipate that this temporary closure would affect virtual access to the Library’s electronic journal databases and other online resources.

SERC is making every attempt to minimize the impact on services and hours of operation. Please note the following dates related to the circulation of Library resources:

The Library will close to in-person visitors at the end of the day on Friday, May 26, 2017.

Circulation services will be affected as follows:

  • Reserves on resources already out on loan are suspended as of Friday, April 7, 2017.
  • Renewals will suspend as of Tuesday, April 25, 2017.
  • Borrowing will suspend as of Friday, May 5, 2017.

For updates on our transition process and reopening, please continue to monitor the Library homepage, blog, and Facebook page, as well as SERC’s social media and web pages. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your continued support.

Best regards,

Ingrid M. Canady, Executive Director, SERC
Carol Sullivan, Director, SERC Library Programs and Services
