The Early Childhood Resource Center was established by state statute in recognition of the foundational value and importance of high quality early learning experiences in the lives of young children. The Center functions within the organization of the State Education Resource Center (SERC). In 2005, SERC, formally known as the Special Education Resource Center was established to promote educational equity, and excellence as to support programs and activities concerning early childhood (public act 05-245). Within the organizational structure of SERC, the Early Childhood Initiative and the Early Childhood Resource Center support the State Department of Education in achieving high quality early childhood education for all young children.
Since 2005, the Early Childhood Resource Center has grown in developing it’s mission and vision, establishing web-based resources for the early care and education community. We will continue to grow in our role as leaders, collaborators and innovators of best practices in the field.
SERC's Early Childhood Resource Center and Initiative's mission is to provide professional training opportunities and a wide range of innovative resources to strengthen the quality of professionalism of Connecticut's early childhood educators, child care agencies, schools and communities that work with young children and families to achieve positive outcomes.
